Studio Dress Code

Toledo Met has a strict but reasonable dress code to help students move and focus accordingly during class.

Toledo Met 2024-25 Dress Code

Monday - Thursdays


Creative Movement – Ages 3-4

Girls - Girls – Black or Pink leotard, Pink or black ballet skirt (optional); pink ballet flats (canvas preferred; no drawstrings preferred); Black tap shoes (lace up or Mary Jane Style) pink ballet tights (Tights are optional at this level. Dancers may choose not to wear tights and instead wear white ankle socks with their ballet and tap shoes)

Boys – White t-shirt (no logos or writing); black shorts; black ballet flats (canvas preferred; no drawstrings preferred); black lace up tap shoes; white socks are optional.

 

Primary Ballet – Ages 5-6

Girls – Black or Pink leotard, pink ballet flats (canvas preferred; no drawstrings preferred); pink ballet tights (Tights are optional at these levels. Dancers may choose not to wear tights and instead wear white ankle socks or no socks with their ballet shoes)

Boys – White t-shirt (no logos or writing); black shorts; black ballet flats (canvas preferred; no drawstrings preferred); white socks are optional.


Ballet , Levels 1-5+

Girls

Leotard                                 Black short sleeved, long sleeved, spaghetti strapped leotard. No cut outs in the front.

Skirt                                       Black ballet skirt (optional). Must be above the knee in the front. 

                                                Wrap around style or elastic waist.

Shoes                                     pink or flesh toned  ballet flats (canvas preferred; no drawstrings preferred);

Tights                                     Pink/flesh toned CONVERTIBLE ballet tights. (Ballet tights must be convertible so dancers                                                        can go barefoot for certain exercises.).

Shorts                                    Girls/Women may wear black form fitting bike shorts with their ballet attire or Toledo Met                                                         logo  wear black  athletic shorts. (This is for modesty.)

Rip Stop Shorts/Pants         Girls/Women may wear black rip stop pants/shorts for barre exercises. 

Leg Warmers                         Girls/Women may wear black or pink leg warmers.

Ballet Sweater                      Girls/Women may wear black or pink wrap around ballet sweater during warmups and barre.

 

Boys

Shirt                                       White short sleeved  t-shirt (no logos or writing)

Shorts                                    Black athletic shorts or BOYS black ballet tights

Shoes                                     Black ballet flats (canvas preferred; no drawstrings preferred)

Socks                                      White socks are optional.


Tap/Jazz/Contemporary

Girls

Bottom                                  Convertible pink tights or black leggings or black athletic or tight fitting shorts

Top                                         Black leotard or black or white athletic wear tops;                                         

Shoes                                     Tap -Black lace up tap shoes (no slip on or split sole tap shoes)

                                                Jazz - Black lace up or slip on jazz shoes

Adult Ballet, Tap and Contemporary


Females                                Ballet attire or athletic attire. Ballet flats are required

Males                                    Ballet or athletic attire. Ballet flats are required.

Tap                                        Shoes are required for tap class. (No slip on or split sole)

Jazz                                       sShoes are required for jazz class. (Lace up or slip on)


Musical Theater Dance Lab

Dress code is the same as adult ballet but students must have ballet, jazz and tap shoes.

Please follow previously mentioned shoe guidelines for each dance genre.


Hair

  • Long hair should always be pulled into a ballet bun and secured properly to withstand rigorous physical activity.
  • Ponytails are acceptable in tap, musical theater dance and adult dance.
  • Young dancers with short hair that is too fine for a bun should have it secured away from their face and out of their eyes.

 

Weekend Dress Code

Friday through Sunday


All previously mentioned guidelines are the same for weekend except…

·     Leotards may be colorful or have a print.

·     Ballet tights should still be pink for females

·     Boys/Men may wear gray or black ballet tights

·     Boys/Men may wear any solid color tops

·     Ballet skirts may be colorful or have a print


Pointe Shoes

  • Dancers who are in ABT Ballet Level 4+ must have pointe shoes that are in good working order (not broken) for every class.
  • Gaynor Minden pointe shoes are not allowed at Toledo Met
  • Demi pointe shoes are not allowed at Toledo Met
  • Toledo Met teachers will determine when a Level 3.5 student is allowed to get their pointe shoes. Dancers should not purchase pointe shoes without express permission from their Toledo Met teachers.
  • Level 3.5 through Level 5 - When purchasing a new brand or a new size of pointe shoes, please have them approved for proper fit by Miss Jessica or Miss Madeline prior to sewing ribbons/elastics on the shoes.
  • Miss Madeline and Miss Jessica are willing to go with dancers to their first pointe shoe fittings.  Please ask them.  They love attending the first fittings with their students when time allows.
